Steve Merlin's projects

Nijmegen, 11th of February 2009

Now that Closer To The Moon is finally out there I've found my head clearing, wiping the dust off the shelves were it was gathering on old, but useful, ideas, and also making room for new ones.

Inspired by 'various experiences' I've finally written 6 new lyrics and put chords and vocals to them, between October and December 2008, and only two days ago an instrumental track saw the light of ehh.., dusk actually.

While recording a demo of these new songs as well as a selection of old songs being renewed for the new album Between Air And Wing, I've finished a piano and fretless bass version of 'Baby With The Shadows In Your Head'. (You may download this track for free, for yourself and for your friends!)

In the mean time: do write something in my guestbook or send a mail - I love feedback on my stuff (constructive, that is) and keep music ALIVE. Like it's supposed to be.

Side kick projects

There are two musical projects for which I've played various instruments, recorded, mixed and mastered music since autumn 2006.

First: an acoustic band called
Fireflies playing folky, lyrics-centered singer-/songwriter music, for whom I've produced an album and a single in 2007. Check out www.fireflies.nu for sound samples.

Second: "Stip". A good friend of mine, Piet, asked me to help him arrange, record and mix an album for children with 21 songs on it, and if it could be made ready please before Sinterklaas (5th of December). Already in November 2007 we produced a second children's cd, actually around a story about Sinterklaas.

Although these projects have been postponing the recording of my own album Closer To The Moon, it's been definately worth the effort: A third album of "Stip" will be recorded in 2009. Dutch parents and kids: check out www.driekleinevisjes.nl and you'll never again have to listen to any crap-kids-music!

Send me a mail if you'd like to order a Stip album.
